Raw Shea Butter
Nuts gathered, cracked, roasted, ground, and kneaded by hand. The same way it has been done for centuries, in the same village, by women who learned it from their mothers.
Ours smells faintly of woodsmoke and nuts. Refined butter smells of nothing, because refining strips the scent out and takes most of the useful compounds with it. The smell is the point.
Choose your size
✔ 450 g | 16 oz pouch. The everyday size. A pea-sized scoop melts into a palmful, so it lasts far longer than the number suggests.
✔ 2.25 kg | 5 lb box. Big pouch, big possibilities: whole-body use, whipped butter recipes, a small skincare business, or a household that keeps raiding yours.
✔ 4.5 kg | 10 lb box. The formulator's size. Soap makers, salons, and anyone who has done the arithmetic on buying in bulk.
Why raw beats refined
- One ingredient: Vitellaria paradoxa nut butter. The ingredient list fits on one line.
- Rich in oleic and stearic fatty acids, which is why it sits on skin as a barrier instead of vanishing in ten minutes
- Naturally contains vitamins A and E
- Its unsaponifiable fraction is unusually large and holds triterpene cinnamate esters, compounds that absorb light in the UVB range. Refining destroys them. We are not permitted to print a sun protection factor and we would not want to: the effect is nowhere near strong enough to replace sunscreen. It is simply one more thing raw butter has that refined butter does not.
- Face, body, hair, hands, feet, and stretched pregnant bellies
Raw Shea butter is not a sunscreen and is no substitute for one.
Who made it
A cooperative of village women who own and run it themselves. Our customers funded most of that. Their children are in school, the butter stays unrefined, and nobody had to add a filler to make it behave on a shelf.
We sell Shea butter in 450 g | 16 oz pouches and in 2.25 kg | 5 lb and 4.5 kg | 10 lb boxes. Never in jars.
