Some classrooms in our village share one or two textbooks between the whole room. That is not a tragedy, it is a queue. It means a child who wants to check something waits for a turn, every day, all year.
One textbook takes one place out of that queue.
How it works
- You pay for a textbook here.
- We buy it in Ghana, so the money stays in the local economy.
- Our partner, the Estonian NGO Mondo, gets it to the school that needs it most. Mondo has worked in the village since 2009 and knows the children and the teachers by name.
The children of the women in our Shea butter cooperative are already in school, paid for by their mothers' own earnings. This is for the other children in the village, and their mothers are the neighbours, cousins and friends of the women who make our butter. Everybody here lives on the same few streets, which is why nothing anyone does stays private for long.
You pay what the book costs and we take care of everything around it. We are a company rather than a charity, so this will never show up on your tax return. It will show up in a classroom.
